Simple Surface Care

Keeping Your Floor Grip Medic Coating Looking Its Best

Decorative resinous coatings are designed to create a durable, attractive and easier-to-maintain surface. Regular light cleaning is generally better than waiting until dirt, oils, pollen or environmental residue have accumulated.

1

Remove Loose Dirt

Sweep, blow or rinse away sand, leaves, grit, pollen and other loose debris before washing the surface.

2

Clean Gently

Use a suitable mild cleaner with a soft-bristle broom, deck brush, microfiber mop or other non-abrasive cleaning tool.

3

Rinse Completely

Residual cleaner can attract dirt or temporarily affect traction, so thoroughly remove cleaning solution and allow the surface to dry.

Best Practice

The Basic Cleaning Method

For most routine cleaning of exterior Floor Grip Medic decorative coatings, you do not need complicated equipment or aggressive chemicals.

  1. Remove loose debris.
Sweep or use a blower to remove sand, leaves, dirt and other loose material.
  2. Rinse with a standard garden hose.
Use normal household hose pressure to wet the surface and loosen environmental residue.
  3. Apply an appropriate mild cleaner.
For routine cleaning, use mild soap, a suitable pH-neutral cleaner or another cleaner specifically approved for resinous or coated flooring.
  4. Agitate gently.
Use a soft-bristle broom, soft deck brush or appropriate non-abrasive cleaning tool.
  5. Rinse thoroughly.
Remove soap, cleaner, dirt and suspended residue completely.
  6. Allow the surface to dry.
Use appropriate caution while the floor or deck remains wet.

Do Not Pressure Wash Coated Surfaces

Floor Grip Medic does not recommend pressure washing our decorative coated surfaces.

High-pressure water can unnecessarily stress a coating system, damage or alter portions of the finish, affect traction material, attack edges or transitions and contribute to premature wear.

For routine exterior maintenance, use a standard garden hose, appropriate cleaner and soft-bristle cleaning tool instead. Improper cleaning methods or damage caused by aggressive pressure washing may also affect applicable warranty coverage.

Exterior Coating Care

Pool Decks, Patios, Lanais & Porches

Florida outdoor surfaces collect pollen, rain residue, dirt, sunscreen, organic material and moisture. Frequent light cleaning helps maintain appearance and keeps contaminants from accumulating on the textured surface.

Routine Cleaning

Pool Decks & Outdoor Living Areas

Recommended Method

  • Rinse regularly with a standard garden hose
  • Remove leaves, dirt and loose organic debris
  • Use mild soap or an appropriate pH-neutral cleaner
  • Agitate with a soft-bristle broom or deck brush
  • Rinse thoroughly after cleaning
  • Allow the surface to dry before normal use

Why Regular Cleaning Helps

Routine cleaning removes dirt, pollen, environmental film, sunscreen residue and other material that can collect on an outdoor surface and temporarily affect its appearance or traction.

After Heavy Rain or High Humidity

A quick garden-hose rinse is often enough to remove fine environmental residue left behind by rain, humidity, landscaping or airborne debris.

Important

Pool Deck Cleaning Precautions

Avoid Aggressive Cleaning

  • Pressure washers
  • Muriatic acid
  • Vinegar or acidic cleaning solutions
  • CLR or similar aggressive mineral removers
  • Strong solvents
  • Harsh degreasers unless specifically coating-safe
  • Wire brushes
  • Metal scraping tools
  • Highly abrasive scrub pads
  • Undiluted or concentrated bleach

Spot Cleaning

For a localized dirty area, begin with warm water and mild cleaner. Gently agitate with a soft brush, rinse completely and repeat if necessary rather than immediately moving to aggressive chemicals.

Garage Floor Care

How to Clean a Coated Garage Floor

Garage coatings can accumulate dust, road grime, tire residue, vehicle fluids, sand and general household dirt. Prompt cleanup helps keep the surface looking its best.

Routine Garage Cleaning

  • Sweep or vacuum sand and loose grit
  • Use a microfiber dust mop for light maintenance
  • Mop with an appropriate resinous-floor cleaner
  • Use a soft or appropriate non-damaging brush when agitation is needed
  • Remove dirty cleaning solution rather than allowing it to dry back onto the floor
  • Rinse when required by the cleaner being used
  • Allow the floor to dry completely

Spills & Vehicle Fluids

Clean spills as soon as reasonably possible. Absorb excess liquid first, then clean the affected area using an appropriate cleaner.

Oil, chemicals, vehicle fluids and other substances should not be allowed to remain on the coating for extended periods.

For unfamiliar chemicals, test a cleaner in an inconspicuous area and contact Floor Grip Medic if you are unsure how to proceed.

Exterior Vehicle Areas

Coated Driveways & Walkways

Driveways experience vehicle traffic, road dirt, tire residue, landscaping debris, moisture and Florida weather. Routine garden-hose rinsing and periodic gentle washing are preferred over aggressive cleaning.

  • Remove leaves, sand and loose debris regularly
  • Rinse using a standard garden hose
  • Use an appropriate mild coating-safe cleaner
  • Lightly agitate stubborn dirty areas
  • Rinse away all cleaning residue
  • Address oil and vehicle fluids promptly

No Pressure Washing

Do not use a pressure washer on Floor Grip Medic coated driveway or walkway surfaces. Normal garden-hose pressure is sufficient for routine rinsing and is significantly less aggressive to the coating system.

Interior Coating Care

Interior Decorative & Resinous Floors

Interior coated flooring generally requires simple dust removal and damp cleaning. The goal is to remove abrasive grit while avoiding unnecessary chemical residue.

Daily / Routine

  • Dust mop
  • Soft broom
  • Vacuum using a non-damaging floor attachment
  • Clean spills promptly

Periodic Cleaning

  • Damp mop as needed
  • Use coating-safe cleaner
  • Avoid allowing dirty water to dry on the floor
  • Rinse where required

Protect the Finish

  • Use clean floor mats at entrances
  • Remove sand and grit regularly
  • Use furniture protection where appropriate
  • Avoid dragging sharp objects

Spot Cleaning

Common Dirt, Residue & Stains

Start with the least aggressive cleaning method and increase cleaning strength only when necessary and when the product is suitable for the coating.

Pollen

Rinse exterior surfaces regularly and use mild soap with light brushing when pollen has formed a visible film.

Sunscreen & Body Oils

Clean sooner rather than later with mild coating-safe cleaner and light agitation, then rinse thoroughly.

Leaves & Organic Debris

Remove promptly. Wet leaves and plant material can leave residue or discoloration if allowed to remain for extended periods.

Oil & Vehicle Fluids

Absorb excess material promptly and clean using an appropriate cleaner intended for resinous flooring.

Tire Residue

Use a coating-safe cleaner intended to address rubber or tire residue rather than harsh solvents or aggressive abrasives.

General Dirt & Mud

Remove heavy loose material first, then rinse or mop and clean using the appropriate method for the location.

Recommended Specialty Cleaner

Epoxy Resinous Cleaner – ERC

For customers who prefer a cleaner specifically developed for resinous flooring, Floor Grip Medic recommends considering Epoxy Resinous Cleaner (ERC) for appropriate coated-floor applications.

ERC offers cleaning products designed for resinous surfaces such as epoxy, polyaspartic and urethane-coated floors. Always follow the current manufacturer's label, dilution, application, rinsing and safety instructions for the particular ERC product being used.

Cleaning Products & Methods to Avoid

Aggressive cleaners and cleaning methods are generally unnecessary for routine coating maintenance and can alter the appearance or performance of a finish.

Do Not Use

  • Pressure washers
  • Muriatic acid
  • Acid-based concrete cleaners
  • Vinegar as a routine floor cleaner
  • CLR or similar aggressive products
  • Paint thinner
  • Acetone or strong solvents
  • Unapproved industrial degreasers
  • Wire brushes
  • Metal scraping tools
  • Highly abrasive pads
  • Concentrated bleach
  • Unknown chemicals without testing first

What About Bleach?

Do not use concentrated bleach as a routine cleaner on your Floor Grip Medic coating.

For unusual organic contamination where a diluted household bleach solution may be considered, use the least aggressive method possible, test a small inconspicuous area first, avoid allowing the solution to remain on the surface longer than necessary, and rinse thoroughly.

If you are unsure about a stain or cleaning chemical, contact Floor Grip Medic before applying it to the entire surface.

Wet Surface Safety

Use Caution Whenever a Surface Is Wet

Traction additives can improve slip resistance, but no coating, concrete finish, tile, paver or other walking surface can be made completely slip-proof under every condition.

Water, sunscreen, soap, oils, pollen, dirt and other contaminants may temporarily reduce available traction.

  • Use additional caution during and immediately after rain
  • Keep pool decks free of sunscreen and organic film
  • Thoroughly rinse cleaning products from the surface
  • Do not leave soap residue on walking surfaces
  • Allow freshly cleaned areas to dry when practical
  • Use appropriate footwear around wet areas

Clean Regularly

Do not allow dirt, oil, leaves, chemicals, sunscreen or other contaminants to accumulate unnecessarily.

Use Proper Methods

Avoid aggressive chemicals, pressure washing, scraping and other methods that can damage the coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Concrete Coating Cleaning FAQs

Can I pressure wash my Floor Grip Medic pool deck?

No. Floor Grip Medic recommends using a standard garden hose, appropriate mild cleaner and soft-bristle cleaning tools rather than high-pressure washing.

What is the easiest way to clean a coated pool deck?

Remove loose debris, rinse with a garden hose, use mild soap or an appropriate coating-safe cleaner when necessary, gently brush dirty areas and rinse thoroughly.

Can I use dish soap?

A small amount of mild dish soap can be suitable for routine cleaning when thoroughly rinsed away. Avoid leaving soap residue on a walking surface.

Can I use vinegar?

We do not recommend vinegar as a routine cleaner for Floor Grip Medic resinous coating systems. Use a mild or purpose-made coating-safe cleaner instead.

Can I use muriatic acid?

No. Do not use muriatic acid as a routine cleaning product on a finished Floor Grip Medic decorative coating.

How often should I clean my pool deck?

There is no single schedule for every property. Clean as needed based on pollen, landscaping, weather, pool activity, sunscreen residue, dirt and other environmental conditions. Frequent light rinsing can reduce heavier buildup.

How do I remove stubborn spots?

Start with mild cleaner and light agitation. Avoid immediately reaching for aggressive solvents or abrasives. For an unusual stain, contact Floor Grip Medic before using a strong chemical.

Can I use a deck brush?

Yes. A soft-bristle deck brush or broom is generally appropriate for routine exterior cleaning. Avoid wire brushes and highly abrasive tools.

Why does my pool deck feel different when wet?

Water and surface contaminants can affect traction. Even a textured surface with traction additive can become slippery when wet. Keep the deck clean and use appropriate caution around wet areas.

Who should I contact if I am unsure about a cleaner?

Call Floor Grip Medic at 904-441-1400 before applying an unfamiliar or aggressive cleaning product to the entire coated surface.
