What Is Polished Concrete?
Polished concrete is created by mechanically refining the actual concrete slab using progressively finer diamond abrasives.
Instead of covering the concrete with an opaque coating, the slab itself becomes the finished floor.
A densifier is applied during the process to react with the concrete and increase surface density. The floor is then refined to the selected finish level and protected with the specified penetrating treatment.

Polishing Is Different From Grind & Seal
With polished concrete, the sheen is created primarily by progressively refining the concrete itself.
With grind-and-seal flooring, the concrete is mechanically prepared and then protected with a clear topical coating that creates much of the finished sheen.
Both can be attractive systems, but they are not the same process.
Progressively Refining the Concrete From Coarse to Fine
The exact tooling and number of passes depend on slab condition, desired appearance and the selected final finish.
Evaluate the Slab
We inspect the concrete for coatings, adhesives, cracks, repairs, contamination, surface variation and other conditions that may affect the finished floor.
Initial Diamond Cut
The slab is mechanically processed with coarse diamond tooling to begin refining the concrete and removing qualifying surface material.
Progressive Refinement
Additional diamond passes refine the floor and progressively reduce the scratch pattern from the prior tooling.
Apply Densifier
Concrete densifier is applied at the appropriate stage to react with the slab and improve surface density.
Final Polish
The floor is refined to the selected stopping point, such as approximately 400 grit or 800 grit.
Final Protection
The floor is cleaned and the specified penetrating protective treatment is applied.
From Matte Architectural Concrete to a More Refined Sheen
The final appearance depends on the slab itself, tooling and the selected polishing level.
400 Grit • Matte / Low Sheen
A clean architectural finish with relatively low reflectivity. This is a strong option for residential interiors and clients who prefer a more natural concrete appearance.
800 Grit • Refined Sheen
Additional refinement generally increases clarity and reflectivity while maintaining the natural character of the slab.
Higher Refinement
Additional polishing levels may be considered for qualifying projects when a more reflective polished-concrete finish is desired.
Polished Concrete Enhances the Existing Slab — It Does Not Make It Perfect
Polishing reveals and enhances the concrete you already have.

Repairs Become Part of the Finished Floor
Qualifying cracks can be filled before polishing, but crack treatment is cosmetic rather than structural.
Repairs may remain visible after polishing and may create color or texture differences compared with the surrounding slab.
Concrete Continues to Move
Concrete naturally expands, contracts and moves. Existing cracks may reopen and new cracks may develop after the project is completed.
No polishing process can guarantee against future slab movement.

No. Polished concrete mechanically refines the actual slab. Epoxy and other resinous systems create a coating over the concrete.
Is polished concrete the same as grind and seal?
No. Grind and seal relies on a clear topical coating for much of its finished appearance, while true polishing develops its sheen through progressive mechanical refinement.
Can you repair cracks?
Qualifying cracks can often be filled, but repairs may remain visible and cannot prevent future movement.
